motion analysis of a semi-submersible platform
This project was performed for an international oil drilling company and involved motion predictions for a deep-water 25 000 ton semi-submersible platform following major structural upgrades.
The project presented a particular challenge because of the uncertainties concerning the values of the radii of gyration of the platform as well as the values of the damping coefficients.
The computer programs used in the project included SolidWorks for the 3D modeling of the platform and ANSYS AQWA for the motion analysis.
